South African Cricket was shaken to it's core this week with the resignation of Mickey Arthur, the Proteas Coach. I was not really surprised by the resignation as I think that Arthur has done a good job in taking the Proteas to where they are today and he has been a part of, at times, a hugely successful team. However, the Proteas now need to go to another level and another coach is needed for this to happen, no doubt. Mike Procter also got the boot as Selection Chief, and once again I am not surprised because he is not a very good communicator and I don't think that he was that popular amongst the squad. What stands out again is that Greame Smith is, deservedly so, the main man in SA cricket. We need to find a coach with whom he is comfortable with, someone like Gary Kirsten or Jeremy Snape. Corrie van Zyl will do a good job in India and who knows, maybe he is the right guy.
Mickey Arthur needs to be to be congratulated for a job well done and I am sure that he will be snapped up in no time, maybe by the Black Caps of New Zealand. However, the right thing has happened and South African Cricket need to go to that extra level, let's hope the right man for the job is appointed.
I called Justine Henin to win the Australian Open two weeks ago and she is now in the semi-finals. Go Miss Henin!! I do think that Andy Murray will win the mens, because I gotta feeling!!
Rugby season is around the corner and the Sharks are worrying me.Their pre-season form is no good and they might struggle this year. Having said that, there is a long way to go, so let's wait and see!
